Nicety Studio started about 18 months ago, and it’s been a really great learning experience so far. It all started when I designed my own wedding invitations, applying what I’d learned during my career in luxury print design.
During the last 18 months there have been highs and lows, such as being asked to design a custom suite for Martha Stewart Magazine, but I also found myself becoming really lost in the wedding world and getting caught up by what other stationers were creating. For the last few months I’ve spent a lot less time on Instagram(!), whilst recreating my brand moodboards and falling back in love with print design. My inspiration usually comes from luxury design and printing techniques, and in particular I love fashion show invitations and how clean yet modern and (fashion) forward they are with materials and typography. I love old book covers with their foiled borders. I love typography, both old and new. I also have the odd random interest such as astrology which I love to bring in to design where it fits!
Recently I bought a hot foil press, which I’m constantly excited about! I’ve always wanted to incorporate design with a more hands-on craft and have been looking to buy one for a couple of years now. I’m enjoying the opportunities it’s helped me create, such as collaborating with other small businesses and designers to help market and grow their business. One of the reasons I wanted one was not only to foil stationery for weddings or create stationery products, but to help build a community where other designers could have stationery or samples printed.
I’m super happy with all my new branding and website which feels a lot more me, but it’s also nowhere near done - I’m in the middle of designing some products, and creating some custom stationery which I’m hoping will be up on the site within the next few weeks! Check back soon!
