If I had to write my list of ‘things I love’, stationery would definitely feature highly. What is it about beautifully designed cards that just makes me so happy?
I know I’m not alone in feeling this way so I’m absolutely sure that you’re all going to love this feature as much as I do. Today, I have the enormous pleasure of introducing you to Anna and the wonderful Nicety Studio, the home of stylish, modern wedding stationery.
Nicety Studio is a stationery design and hot foil studio. Anna creates elegant-yet-attention-grabbing wedding stationery that both you and your guests will love. Anna began her design career with luxury brands such as Graff Diamonds, De Beers and Selfridges, to name but a few, but it was her own wedding that was the start of Nicety Studio.
“I’ve always wanted to have my own business and, to be honest, I wasn’t sure what that would be, just that it would be in design. I trained as a designer and all my family are designers too so I knew this was my area. However, it wasn’t until my own wedding that I began to toy with the idea of starting a stationery design studio after my own wedding invitations were repined around 3000 times on Pinterest! I knew I always wanted to work in print design and saw this as the perfect opportunity to work in an industry where print really matters and will always be appreciated and admired.”
And there’s lots to admire with Anna’s work. As Nicety Studio is a design and hot foil studio, Anna can work on projects from ideation right through to production of the finished product. She invested in a hot foil press last summer and it’s been a hit from the start.
“There are so many things you can do with foiling and there are so many colours available! Traditionally, with wedding stationery, couples choose a metallic foil such as gold or rose gold which really does shine against most paper stocks and feels super luxurious. I’m also seeing clients be a bit more daring with their colour choice and, when a design is right, a playful or coloured foil still adds luxury to the finished stationery.”
Nicety Studio offers collections of wedding stationery that encompasses everything you could need from save the dates and invitations right through to wedding day details such as orders of ceremony and menus. You can even have your thank you cards designed to match your stationery suite.
“I essentially offer two services – custom and semi-custom design. Semi-custom wedding stationery is a pre-designed suite where you can choose your text, papers and foils to personalise your design. Custom design is a completely bespoke service, tailored to you. It’s a really collaborative process and we’ll share moodboards and inspiration to help create the final piece.”
“At the moment, there’s a huge difference in colour choices between my European and US clients. My European couples are drawn to more traditional colours and neutral palettes such as whites and greys. My US clients, on the other hand, tend to go for brighter colour palettes and that’s been a lot of fun recently!”
When Anna’s not designing, you’ll find her in the gym, listening to podcasts or going for long walks. She’s currently obsessed with Beyoncé but you’ll also find Radiohead, James Blake and, right now, Lizzo, on the studio playlist.
“I also have two favourite female designers – Anna Mirats, a Spanish art director and designer who works on lots of fashion and luxury brands, and Charlotte Heal, who is a London based lifestyle art director and designer. Both have very clean aesthetics with beautifully refined typography.”
I love the fresh, clean style of Anna’s work too. There’s a range of Minimal, Classic and Traditional suites but I have to admit that my own favourites sit at opposite ends of the design spectrum as I have a soft spot for the Letter suite and also for the Modern suite too. I love the brighter colour combinations but there’s something so wonderfully reassuring about those classic colour palettes too. In short, you can be totally sure that your finished stationery will be a work of art.
“I think that wedding stationery is so important because it’s the first thing that you guests see of your wedding and it’s the first glimpse into what they can expect on the day. In a world where everything is so instant and available on screen, receiving something in the post which has been handcrafted with real meaning is, more than ever before, a real luxury.”
I absolutely agree with Anna’s words. There’s something special, something almost magical, about receiving beautiful paper post and when that post happens to be an invitation to a wedding, it’s even more meaningful. So many of our guests commented on our stationery so I can absolutely confirm that all the time that you spend deciding on (some would say obsessing over) colours, fonts and the overall design is well worth it.
So, indulge yourself in wedding stationery design with Anna and Nicety Studio, you’ll be forever glad if you do.
